Default R/T Cats DESTROYED! *PICS showing the disaster*

Well everyone, I finally found the source of all of these ongoing problems with my car:

1. Exhaust tone with the NISMO Exhaust / RT Cats starting going to ****

2. Car having extremely rough idle to the point where my car was dying at stoplights

3. The low-end and top-end performance of my car dropped dramatically

And here was the set-ups I have had on my Z:
- NISMO Exhaust
- ****** R/T Cats
- K&N Typhoon Cold Air Intake (then when the problem came about, I thought it was the intake, so then I went to a JWT Pop Charger) . . . now i'm running the POP Charger and trying to sell the K&N Typhoon.

Anyway. . . enough of the talk. . . Here's the pictures of the disaster I have delt with becuase of **** R/T Cats.

:THE GOOD ONE:

:THE ONE THAT CAUSED ALL MY PROBLEMS:

I guess what I have to say is that for all of you guys out there that are as happy as I *WAS* with the R/T Cats. . . GOOD LUCK!

Now I need to find out what to do to get my money back from Random Technology! I'll NEVER put one of their products on my car again. I'm not the first one this has happened to

Not too sure on that one. I know dozens of guys running RT Cats with no problems and the same modifications as myself, but then I have heard a bunch of guys having the same issues that I had in the very beginning before it got rough. So it's all in Luck in my own opinion with these things.

Dude, that sucked. How long have you had them? I may have to get a regular check up on my Kinetix cats as well...just in case.

I had them for for 500 miles before my car started acting up with the rough idle. When I hit 1500 miles on the Cats, my car's exhaust tone changed drastically (very deep and throaty), then just a bit over 2200 miles is when my car was stalling in about 1 in 7 stoplights, my performance dropped so much to where I was getting smoked by Honda Civics with just an exhaust and intake. (YEAH, THAT BAD!)

What'd you end up doing with your RT Cats Apex? Did Random Technology reimburse you?

Your description of what happened to you is exactly like mine. . . but mine went over 2,000 miles

You're welcome Richie. I just hope nobody else has to go through what I did.

only the driver's side went. my old RT cats are in storage right now; i've been too busy/lazy to send them back to RT for warranty, even though i keep telling myself i will.

i had quite a bit of mileage on my old RT cats, including a few track days.

i have another set of used RT cats on right now that i got for a good price from a forum member. so far no problems, but i'll see how these do; i eventually want to switch out to crawfords

good luck w/ getting your cats replaced, webiteks.

That's strange! The one that went out on me was my Drivers Side also! I wish you luck on the RT Cats you're running right now.

Thanks for wishing me luck Apex. . . I need it :-)

RT cats are crap. They are expensive and don't last very long. Many maximas owners sold theres are thre them away, I don't think any of us maxima owners buy them anymore.

It's pretty strange that one cat lived and the ther died...I wonder what the internal problem was with the bad cat.

To Jkoc: I am sticking with the JWT Pop charger becuase I like the sound of it much more. All in personal preference I guess.

To Alberto: I was considering just gutting my Cats and turning them into test pipes, but I love the tone of my car right now - so I may just leave it and forget everything. I wish I knew someone that had NISMO exhaust + POP Charger + Test pipes so I could hear their exhaust tone.

Well, I am just the person you are looking for, here is a previous post with soundclip of me running a trans am,

Mods include, NISMO Exhaust, NISMO Camshafts, JWT Popcharger, Helix Test Pipes. You will have to right click on Video 1 and Save Target As, same for Video 2.

Hope this helps.

Tim your car sounds sweet man, I was thinking about the Nismo exhaust with test-pipes I've been having problems with my Injen. Looks nicer than stock but sounds so much meaner. Nice chirp into 4th

Sorry about the problems with the R/Ts. I've read about that kind of thing happening before, as you said, your not the first one to have this happen. My Crawford's are just great, BTW. Have you thought getting a set to replace the R/Ts. I wish you luck in getting your money back.
