Default Will there EVER be a GOOD plenum that keeps the stock strut?

i just wanna know if anyone out there besides Crawford is ever coming out with a dyno proven plenum that posts nice gains and allows us to keep our factory strut bar.

i hope that isdunique comes out with the one he has talked about but i am beginning to lose hope. i definitely thought we would see it or another by now.

is there anyone else with one on the horizon?

any intake manifold that retains the stock strut bar will have to replace the lower plenum as well.

Keep in mind that LSDUnique's is a totally new design and I think it replaces the upper and lower plenums (not sure). This will take a lot more R&D work, etc. We def. don't want something less than the best LSD can do. I will wait. Besides, I am holding off on things for the motor like plenums and cams, etc. until there is a perfect or near perfect solution for AF ratio and timing, etc through electronic engine management. That does not exist yet. When it does, it's party time.

Everything else LSDUnique makes is priced great! And it is of great quality. We'll see I guess. Maybe it will never come out. I don't know.

R&D is a money pit, no doubt. If it can be done someone will do it, we can count on that!

While Crawford’s plenum (collector) mod is proven, it's definitely not 'stealthy". IMO, differential porting of the lower collector could offer similar benefits while maintaining the stock external appearance.

Default It's Impossible

The whole point of the Crawford Plenum is that the stock plenum slopes down in the front to accomodate the hood and the stock strut bar, and therefore squeezed down the area that gets air to the front 2 cylinders. That is the problem that Crawford is resolving by creating more air for those 2 cylinders, with the taller plenum. There is simply no place for the stock strut brace to go. So you get Crawford's brace for $200. It is offset from the shock towers with heavy duty brackets. That is not a perfect solution, but it is about as good as it is going to get. Here's a pic.

I ordered my Crawford and will eventually just get the Crawford Strut bar...no biggie, Even though I would love to have say a JIC SB I'll be more happier with horsepower than looks.

Your plenum looks nice, all the welds are nice and neat. I guess i saw some of the earlier ones that welds weren't so neat and made it look like a hack job. I'm glad the quality has gone up.

The DW SC design integrates the SC into a redesigned plenum. This might make the engine breathe more evenly to each cyl, but that remains to be seen. A great idea IMO IF you are going FI.

Default But what about a strut brace?

zland -

This thread is about the front strut brace. Does the DW SC accomodate a strut bar? Do you have a picture of the DW SC you can post? Thanks.

Without pointing fingers (just known it was a BIG name) - this has already been tried. It lost 15 hp.

I STILL don't understand why the plenum is so expensive... looks like all you do is cut off the front/top half the the plenum, replace it with sheetmetal, and weld it back together... am I missing something or is that hardly a $450 job?

Dont you understand the cost of R&D? I think the price is excellent and hell we own a 35 thousand dollar car, spend the money on the mods.

I can't believe I didn't notice this earlier. Looks exactly as you explained.

Yeah you are missing a little! Haha.

Cutting, grinding, fitment, welding, powdercoat, clearcoat. Plus the upkeep of the custom jigs, plama cutter, welders, saws, grinders, etc.

So many of you are whining about the cost of the Crawford Plenum, which took time and money to R&D, money for the proper equipment to make it, and someones time and effort to create. The product is proven by dynos, and many personal testaments. Crawford is not a large company like Nismo pumping out a ton of product. I say hats off to Crawford for a kick a$$ product with great gains at a great price. They were even thoughtful enough to create a strut brace that BTW looks much better than the stock one without any loss of functionality. If I were you I would get my order in for the Plenum before they decide to increase the price to where it should be.
