Default Stereo Install Part 3

Well I had to change my sub configuration up because I just didn't like the way the base sounded. Previously I had two JL audio 10 freeair subs in the stock locations. I'll post a link. They put out pretty good base but just didn't have any punch. The stock locations were also a breeding ground for numerous rattles even after dynomatting. The new setup is a custom molded fiberglass enclosure which fits 1 10" JL Audio 10w6v2. The system absolutely rocks now. No rattles or distortion whatsoever. Here's links to my previous installs and a few pictures of the new sub setup. This sub setup is the same that "Gaseous" did which is where I got the idea.

It's a Kicker KX550.3. 65x2 for the fronts and 400 to the sub.

FBlade1,

Fantastic work on the sub enclosure. I really like it, and if you or your installer is making this, I am sure they would sell very well.

I thank you for testing out the IB4's. You have proven with this iteration of installation that a sealed enclosure is the way to go.

Let us know if more of these are available. I'm going to have to search for Gaseous' sub project now.

With labor, materials and sub about 600.00. Worth every penny!

Thanks! The install was performed by Matt at Tweeter in Towson Md. He's done quite a few Z's now.

Wow. that looks nice.

BTW-- what kind of trunk mat is that. The trunk mat that came w/ my car is more flimsy looking w/o the rubber backing...

It's the optional trunk mat you can purchase with the car.

Looks awesome Riley!

When Matt installed mine he didn't have the JL sub cover at the time so I'm running without that. That's the only difference between ours that I can see, that and the difference in amp.

Sounds are clear and strong, the sub is awesome and Matt does an excellent job.

I'm running a PPI PCX-2125 to power the sub.

Thanks and thanks for sharing your idea and pics! PPI's are nice amps. Let me know when you have some free time....we'll take a drive and compare systems. Talk to you soon. Riley

FBlade1-

I sent you a PM a couple days ago regarding the sub enclosure you put in next to your spare tire. I am planning on doing the exact same setup next week, and was wondering"

- how exactly you built the enclosure?
- was it entirely fiberglass or a combination of other materials?
- is there any rattling of the rear hatch now that you've had it in for a little while
- any recommendations or things you would do differently?

Thanks for your help man....the install looks great!

Since it is under the mat, do you have any ratteling issues with the matt vibrating? I am thinking about something very similar and that is one of my concerns. THanks for all the help bro. <M>

very nice, I'm going to explore building a box in the location. I will only use mdf since I've never worked with fiberglass. Looks great! I would have an upholstery shop cut out the the opening on the map so the speaker isn't covered, that's my 2 cents.
