another custom sub enclosure
He's about 1/2 way done with it. It will sit between the strut and rear speakers and the amp will rest between the subs at an angle.

looks good, i just don't want to be in his shoes... he's gonna be filling and sanding for a long time. Next time he glasses anything he should be using a softer mold cloth and streching it way tighter so the wrinkles are gone. I've been there many times before sanding, I can tell you exactly what not to do. lol. I'm sure it will look great though. are you painting it or covering it?

I see you have scrapped the other ideas and go with the original idea. Looks good so far and I can't waint to see and hear the finished product. Definitely keep us updated!

hey guys I am a little confused. When I was talking about doing my enclosure I was told to face the sub toward the rear of the hatch. I was told that if I placed them b4 the strut bar the sound waves would get trapped behind the stru tower and give me poor sound. I have seen several enclosures like this. Are they they best way to go or should the subs face the rear in order to getthe best sound?

The plan was to cover it with color matched vinyl and cover the amp with plexiglass. Unfortunately the color match guy said he couldn't do a good job with all the creases and the angles involved and the primary installer decided against a plexiglass cover for looks since the amp matches the strut cover. also, the plan was to have the subs fire more upward towards the hatch but the magnets were a concern so he rotated them a little towards the front.
So, the short answer is it will be covered with vinyl.
He suggested getting it painted super black to match the car but I can't afford the extra $$$ right now.

For the size (10") and watts (200) firing up towards the hatch had the best effect. When pointed to the back it just didn't have enough power, I guess.
The sound is good, but not over bearing. And finally enough thump for the wife...

That's badass, I was thinking about doing a similar setup with 10s, those are 12s right? Subs firing up but the same deal, between the Strutbar and the seats, but I would make it one big box for easier tuning options (ported/sealed haven't decided) and putting the Amprack behind the driver's seat.

subs need a set amount of cubic feet of box area for them to sound right.
i see a lot of nice looking box set ups, but is anyone making the boxes to the right specs? or just make it first then we'll c how it sounds??

They are the Apline Type E 10" 200 Watts RMS.
I think the guy did most of this by the seat of his pants... I asked him how many cubic feet there are and he said about 1.5 total. Those speakers need 1.2 total minimum. But I'd have to say getting them installed was the first priority. Stuffing it with batting makes up the difference.
The airspace for the subs actually runs under the amp. So, there's a little more airspace than first impression would give.

i had put 2 12's in my last car and built the box myself. came out pretty good. i beleive it was 3.8 cubic feet instead of 4. too big to fit in my Z.
i dont know, maybe just 2 12's is better for the sake of sake of saving space.
