Wider shot of fill. Enclosure is completely sealed. The only air leak area was around the seat belts which now has a custom rubber boot.

Jeff!
Wow! I mean WOW! I mean Holy Sh#t WOW! What an incredible installation! I'll bet it sounds even better than it looks. Questions: Did you make all the speaker and equipment mounting kits or are they available at stores? How much did all that cost you? Did you install it or a shop? If you did, how easy was it to install the eq and head unit in the dash? They both look factory! I'd like to get rid of my Bose crap and install new head units, but I'm worried about opening the door to rattles. have you experienced any rattles or is the install as sound as the day you took delivery?
Nice job, buddy.

jak, got a question for you . . . . does your DVD only play when the parking brake is on? I'm not implying that you would actually play any video recording in the front seats of a moving vehicle, because that would be illegal, BUT, if you wanted to, could you?

fotodad,
Thanks. I am very pleased with the sound quality. It is very smooth, natural, transparent, and the stereo separation is really more than I expected.
I did the complete install myself. I computer modeled the entire system and components prior to the final selections and installation so I had a good idea about the end result.
The dash mounting kit is a Metra 99-7402 and is available online. The rear subwoofers are mounted on the stock Nissan bracket plates one of which already comes with the car behind the drivers seat. Nissan did a wonderful job in designing this area of the car. Everything from left to right is interchangeable. Another words, if you wanted the glove box behind the drivers seat, no problem. All of the holes and cut outs are identical behind either seat. I went to the Nissan dealer and bought another speaker bracket for $26.00 and it bolted right into the glove box location. No modification.
The small speakers behind the headrests are standard 6 1/2" and bolt right in with no modifications. Nissan has a .35 cubic foot enclosure for those speakers. I cut a 3" hole for the tweeters and mounted a passive crossover inside the enclosure.
The door speakers were the most difficult. The window will role down into the magnet of the speaker unless you go with a slim depth speaker. Unfortunately there are not a lot of slim depth speakers that will operate in that location. What I did is select the best component to fit the stock location acoustically but the speaker that was selected was standard depth and interfered with the window. I devised an ABS mount, plastic welded to the stock ABS bracket. The mount was cut at 13 degrees tilting the speaker towards the driver and passenger thus tilting the magnet away from the window.
I also did in dash flush mount 1" soft dome tweeters and abandoned the 3/4" tweeters in the door pillars.
I designed and built all of the crossovers tailoring the response to the cabin of this car.
The dash components were easy to install. Everything was removed and I installed the screen, EQ, and head unit in the house on a bench. The hardest part of that is keeping track of the screws and how it went back together.
There are no rattles as a result of the install. The dash, other than the shifter piece and the top of the gauge piece all bolts in. The door panels are bolted at the handles and opener and the only snap clips are around the edges. There really isn't a lot of opportunity for rattles the way Nissan has everything bolted in.
The only rattle I had to deal with was due to the extra bass and the stock speaker grills vibrating. That was an easy fix. Everything is as tight (some spots tighter) as it was when I bought it.

PowerZ,
You are correct the area is large for most 10" speakers. I think I found only three or four 10" speakers that would work properly out of 30-40 speakers speced.
The enclosure volume is more suited to a pair of 12s but would require some creative modification to get them to physically fit.
In any case a single speaker of any size other than a 18" or possibly some 15" won't work in that location unless you are thinking of a free air situation.

Very ncie install. Do you think 10w7s could fit there. If you dont mind can you take a pic with the units on? How did you exactly install that screen to the alpine head unit? AI-Net? How much dynamat/deadener did you use? Scanspeak make great subs/comps, im sure it sounds excellent.

spiroh,
Thanks for the compliment. I will try to get a pic up later tonight with the system on. It is neat because both the EQ and Alpine can illuminate orange.
I used the supplied screen bracket of the Alpine 760 and attached that to the dash peice with four screws. I had to do some cutting to the Alpine bracket to get it to fit right and drill four holes for the screws.
I used 28 square feet of Fatmat which was quite a bit cheaper than the brand name Dynamat. www.fatmat.com
Who makes the 10w7s? JL right? I would be happy to size those for you if I have specs.
