Default NISMO 46cc Heads inspected... to be installed \m/, ^_^ .\m/

NISMO VQ35 46cc Heads on http://www.performancenissanparts.com

Well, today while having our fire door slam shut a semi large brown box from UPS was dropped at our feet. Didnt think much of it, figure it was oil caps or something. Got off of the phone to see Jenny ripping away at the top. "I GOT HEADS! I GOT HEADS" Taking a closer look, we really did get NISMO 46cc heads!

Jeff and I run up stairs in excitement to grab a used OE Head we have laying around (hrmmm why would we have that ) and Jeff grabs it and takes it down stairs.

At first glance...

Nismo head... Still cast aluminum...
OE Head... Cast aluminum looks the same...

Nismo head... Looks to see if its ported etc...
OE Head... they look the same...

NISMO Head... At the top of the valves the lip is very short before the top of the head,
OE Head... The OE head's gap between the Valve and top of the head is close to 2mm longer then the NISMO Head...

eurika! the difference...

We then look to see if they just shaved down the top of the head (AH EASY FIX!) NO WAY!!!! They made a whole new cast. For the top of the head still has the exact same cut outs and indentations as the OE Head.

They both are the same height, we could not measure weight since our used head still contained its internals...

As far as Installing this... Monday Jeff's car gets ripped apart... We expect these to bump up the compression to 11.5:1 and I think jeffs car will break or get very close to 300RWHP

Nismo heads and some other goodies which will be pictured in the step by step install we will be posting as the install is done.

Below are some pictures...

First photo is of the new NISMO Head valve where you see the difference... More pictures will come when we are ready to install these on Monday... And then off to be dyno tuned to make sure that this mod can run on our crummy 91 octane gas... Good thing there is 93 and 100 octane around the corner.

wait I thought Jeff was going to get the greddy TT installed in his car ? In any event if Jeff is running about 265 RWHP honestly you think the bump in compression will give him 300RWHP and this is with nismo cams im assuming? If so that would be great..how long of an install would this take?

I'm not an expert by any means but couldn't you get your stock heads ported and polished for $2500?

Will this require any changes in the ECU due to the increase in compression? Will A/F ratios need to be lower at all to run safely? I am struggling to see why an ECU update would be needed but thought it nevers hurts to ask. What about the bottom end, will you be doing anything to strengthen it or is it not really needed?

change in plan...

building up a NA motor first...

His current set up...

NISMO CAI / NISMO Camshafts / NISMO Headers / RT Cats / NISMO Exhaust / UR Crank Pulley set / TS Reflash / NISMO FLywheel & Clutch...

His new set up...

Will be anounced at a later date

As far as ZUL8R's post... You can.. but the way the valves are closer to the top of the head can not be done by simply grinding down the top... when i take a photo of the whole top of the head, you will see notches that are in there that will be eliminated if grinded down...

So far we know this from NISMO as a bolt on part with nothing else needed...

the info NISMO gave us was...

NISMO VQ35 46cc Head LH & RH...

That is it.. and only it...

We have our race team looking into what the OE cc was... and what the difference would be...

Jason
When you get round to CC,ing the unswept area & do your calculations you will find these heads on the stock motor will be about 12.3 to 1 CR.
Also that 2mm you mention is what I was saying about the available cam followers not being in range for lash adjustment with the stock, Tomei , Nismo or any cam with the stock base circle.
Thats why Nismo has made available cam blanks so that the Engine builder can take advantage of the extra lift that these RZZ heads can accomadate

The cumbustion chamber looks like a different shape. The Nismo is Bathtub shapped and the stock one is round.

No, they both have the same shape. Look closer at the pic. It is just the carbon buildup on the OE head that makes it look round.
