Default For Those of You With Rusty X02 Tips...Here's Some Help

hey guys,
Just wanted to share what I did to get rid of the rust. I know there's quite a bit of x02 owners so once their tips go crap, they might be interested in this instead of buying another exhaust for the time being.

This is not perfect, but it does the job

OK well...here is what I did...

1. Gather the necessary tools (Bernzomatic, pair of welding gloves {optional}, metal polish that can be used with stainless steel, rags, 1500 grit wet/dry sand paper)

2. Wet sand the rust and x02 coating. I can't emphasize enough that you want to sand the x02 coating off or else there might be a color clash. Here's a comparison of the rusty one and almost done sanding

3. Take your metal polish and polish the crap out of it.

4. Place the tips on some blocks of wood and light the bernzomatic. As you heat up the tips, they'll first turn a golden brown. I used a back and forth motion. Don't stay in one area and stop. Eventually you'll see the color change. If I remember, it'll turn purplish and then to a blue. Take your time when you do this.

5. Once you achieved the color you want, stop and let cool.

6. {optional} You can buy some vht high temp clear coat and shoot the tips. Maybe that might slow the rusting.

Here's the end result. Rushed this one so I have to do it over.

Like I said: Not perfect, but it does the job. If you mess up, just start all over again. Take your time. If you have a scrap piece of stainless, work on that until you get comfortable.

Hope this helps some people out there.

And do this in a ventilated area. I can't stress how many times i've seen people use a bernzomatic in a closed room for a project.. Carbon monoxide For the loss

O yes...i closed my garage door because of the wind. 1 minute later, i said screw it and opened it.

O and another thing. Wind puts out the bernzomatic so you have to keep relighting it. Irritating...

This isn't a tip for HKS owners.

Yea for me, everything is is good. Tiny pin head size hole on 1 of the welds, but nothing bad yet. I don't mind rust too much since I can always sand it off and have a welder so I can just touch up. When the thing fully craps, i'll get something else
