Default Issues with re-clear coating Carbon Hood

Just wondering if this was normal with "fish eyes" and such.

My main paint guy wouldnt touch it because of the fish eye problem hes encountered;

I now have a place called CAMS who do custom paint on bikes said he would re-clear it; and he keeps having to re-sand it and clear it again and again... Hes saying the carbon fiber is soaking in the clear and causing little holes or dimples in the coat...

Is that with all carbon fiber parts?

Thought it would be good to know for people buying used carbon parts with a little clear coat flake that maybe its not such a good deal (my ).

Yes when clearing a c/f part you usally have to do it a couple times cause the clear seapes into the purs of the resin creating the fish eye effect just re wet sand and re clear and it will be fine

Thanks guys! So its on the car now but with some fish eyes still; the paint guy who works with carbon fiber on bikes; said hes got 6 coats of clear still with fish eyes...

His idea was to let it sit on the car and get the heat form the engine and the sun on it for a couple of weeks and hes gonna try again.

Does anyone know a paint place in Orlando that can handle carbon fiber correctly?

It’s not your paint guy. I am having the same problem with my hood and hatch. I'm going to work on it some more after work this afternoon. Mine has a million pin holes in it. Wet sanding and buffing helped, but it's still not acceptable. The bad part is I ordered the roof and a-pillars and have to clear them. If we come up with some sort of solution I will let you know. Good Luck.

Mine did the same thing, thats just how carbon fiber is. No hoods are going to be perfect with no fish eyes. Ya just gotta deal with it the best you can.
