by re-flashing your ecu, they can raise it a couple 100 rpms.

The Z UTEC is a Plug and Play Parallel Engine Management System. Designed to work together with you factory ECU. The UTEC gives you the ability to let the factory ECU drive the car under normal cruise conditions then take over when you are ready for the power in a flawless manor. This gives you like stock drive-ability with the advantages of a powerful stand-alone system. The UTEC allows you to maintain OBDII compliancy as well. Works with boost and N/A Applications. This is probably the best way to tune the Z with lots of options for ignition timing and fuel.

So you CAN re-flash the stock ECU? I was told that you have to get a piggy back or an AMS

The UTEC will allow you to adjust the rev limiter, it can not adjust idle.

For what reasons would one usually need to change their idle?

UpRev's Cipher product can change the idle. It's useful on G's and Z's that are FI, or have cams, or just idle too high or low.

http://uprev.com/products/cipher_NI.html

I think a UTEC can adjust the rev limit on a non-revup G or Z. I don't think the UTEC will change the RevUp's rev limit because it needs to stop the fuel and throttle body. I'm almost positive that UTEC's don't have the capability to manipulate the drive-by-wire throttle assembly.

You can flash the stock ECU. Actually, that's the only thing you would flash... technically, you also flash a stand-alone's EEPROM when you upgrade the firmware, but I don't think this is what the poster above means...

cipher or your local nissan/infinity dealership can raise the idle, but make sure you have your utec disconnected before they try to raise the idle otherwise the utec will not allow your stock ecu to be altered.

n00b question and kind of obvious...but want to make sure...once disconnected and then reconnected, will anything be lost from the UTEC?
