New law passed "racing"="felony"
FYI-Gov. Arnold S. just passed new law that any type of racing will now be a "felony". This was in today's paper. Believe or not, this was based on the New released DVD: "Fast and Ferious-Tokyo Drift" That's crazy.
Becareful out there. Especially any modded Z's and G's. There on the lookout. There cracking down in S.F. area for "No front plates", "tinted windows" etc...This was referenced from a S.F.P.D. friend. Don't take any chances.

I hate to admit it, but i watched the movie and will probably buy the DVD (I'm a closet fan). It sucks that our cars are "marked", but... Times like this, i'm glad i don't live in Cali.
Must be election time. As far as these frivolous tickets, it is an income for the state, and the mini IRS agents (cops) must give tickets to justify their existence. Not all cops are bad in my eyes, but allot (especially where I live) are useless.

i consider any time a good time to not live in cali. (no offense cali people) Theyres just too many laws against fun stuff to do to your car. Over here on the east, in sc, they could almost care less. Theyre hard on drunk driving tho, which is good.
What about riding in a motorcycles, wrekcing it and not having the proper equipement/license and having your *** saved by a technicality? is that a felony mr arnold?

...and on top of the penalites stated above. They impound your car & auction it off if you are caught racing.
BTW...who else thinks that having a locksmith obtain copies of our keys maybe a bad idea. I think it may just add yet another resource for organized car thieves.

New Law Cracks Down On California Street Racing
(AP) SACRAMENTO Drivers who illegally race cars on California's roads could face jail time and fines under a new law signed Saturday by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"Those who race their cars at high speeds on California streets and highways endanger the lives of innocent people as well as themselves," the Republican governor said in a statement.
The bill by Assemblyman John Benoit, R-Palm Desert, seeks to target the growing popularity of illegal street racing, featured in this year's Hollywood film, "The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift."
Supporters of the bill say illegal street racing kills or injures hundreds of people each year. The Department of Motor Vehicles reported that 7,640 drivers were convicted last year for engaging in motor vehicle speed contests, a 9 percent increase from the year before, according to Benoit.
Under the new law, prosecutors can seek increased penalties against drivers who engage in reckless driving or speed contests that injure another person. Drivers could be charged with a felony, sentenced up to 6 months in state prison and fined up to $1,000 -- a much stiffer penalty than the old misdemeanor law.
In another driving-related measure, Schwarzenegger also signed a law that would allow car owners who have lost their keys to get replacements from a registered locksmith.
The bill by Sen. Carole Midgen, D-San Francisco, will require dealerships to give car owners the information they might need to get a copy of their key. Registered locksmiths would be allowed to obtain the information from auto manufacturers through a secure system.
The law will apply to 2008 vehicle models.

I 100% support to band street racing, and make it a felony due to the fact that i had a friend who passed away from street racing. I do not support street racing nor spectating. If you really want to race, race on the track, not the streets. Keep it safe for all of us and other families.
that sucks. I actually seen a decline trend in street racing. A few years back when "organized" street racing was at its hype. It was crazy. People who provoke me to race every other stop light at night and we would go at it. Since that crack down, street racing has died down dramatically. Only places i know of is in oakland and areas near by but its very very very dangerous for spectators there. I've heard stories of people being shot, car jacked, and getting injuried.
I do not believe a felony is needed if caught for racing.
