Well this morning I noticed my oil psi gauge was red(warning).

My oil pressure went from the usual 20-21psi to 13-15psi at idle(warmed up).

Everything else seems to be ok, my shop is closed till monday so I'm a little worried.

What caused this drop over night?

What should I do ?

I'll check for leaks in the morning but I dont think I have one.

I even added some oil and still no change.

I do have an AAM oil spacer if that helps.

Where is your oil level on the dip stick?

If the spacer also lowers the oil pickup (like the APS pan does for example) that may have become lose and is not "sucking" up just oil. I would drop the lower pan and make sure the pickup is secure... If the oil level is right it wont matter if the pickup is not working properly

Just checked and it's a little over the H

I added some yesterday figering it would solve the issue so that's why it's over.


There's no stains on my driveway either

Check your turbo oil lines for pressure leaks

Email APS's technical side. See if they can give you the standard operating oil pressures.......
1. Cold
2. Warmed up w/AC/fans on
3. Warmed up w/o AC/fans on
4. Etc....

The turbo system on his car is a Greddy kit according to his signature, and the turbos have barely any effect at all on the oil pressure anyway.

The factory service manual will tell you what your oil pressure should be.

That drop in oil pressure is very odd. Is your oil pressure higher on cold start? Maybe there is a malfuction with your oil pressure sensor. Otherwise, check the oil pickup like Kenefic suggested. Maybe some gasket material got sucked up in there.

On cold start up it's lower than usual, usual is at about 90psi and now it's at 80psi...

I hope it's just a malfuction, I actually had to change the gauge twice b/c it didn't work at all, maybe it's buging again I'll never buy Autometer (Nexus) again !!!
If I need to change the gauge again I'll go with Defi for sure...Sharif expect a call

I'll drop the oil pan next week at the shop and make sure the pickup is secure.

I did have an oil sender go bad on a 92 300zx TT once. The car only had 15000 miles on it. It was doing the same thing.....very low pressure on the gauge but it was actually fine. Does the gauge use the factory pressure sensor or does it have one of it's own? This may be the problem.
Another option would be to put a pressure gauge on the lower oil pan where the factory pressure sensor is and get a direct reading.

And you trust defi guages which read 2-5psi more boost then what being run? sigh. Our cars come with a percectly fine oil pressure guage. u guys with too much money and not enough sense.

And you base what you say on what exactly? Your claim on Defi gauges reading higher, did you do a controlled study on various gauges and recorded the results in order to say such a thing?

Let alone how can you say anything on what works "perfectly".

The starter of the thread could have a legit problem, and you sir are not the owner. Not even there in person to give any first hand experience.

You are the one who does not make "enough sense".

Stuff getting caught in lines doesn't cause less pressure. When you block the intake on your vacuum think of what happens...you gain suction, or increase the pressure. So if there was something stuck in a line it would read higher.

And I'm pretty sure that too much oil causes lower readings, since the return is basically in the oil and there would be less movement, but still having oil moving.

But this happend before I added the extra oil, tha car was running fine before that and no low pressure readings.
