Default Quick wheel release

i saw four 350zs at the Night Shift car show with these quick release steering wheels. I guess theyre used for security reasons. Any thoughts on these? is it worth getting? any chance of the wheel coming loose while driving?

Most people buy quick releases when they have a full bucket seat and/or roll cage. It's much easier to get in and out of the car with the steering wheel pulled.

If im not mistaken, Momo makes a quick release hub adapter for the 350Z.

They are made for racing, so I doubt they will come loose. You do loose your Airbag though, so you may not be able to get car insurance for a vehicle with a removable, non airbage wheel.

They're quite tempting to buy for looks and security reasons for your car.

But then what if an insurance claim arrises during an accident or your airbag isn't their?

I was thinking about getting it to take the wheel in at nite but not at the expense of my airbag

Those quick releases are pretty good. Steering Wheel will definitely not come off...Yes you will lose the airbags, but that's about it....also your steering wheel controls...

Wouldn't you be able to use the stock steering wheel with a hub and quick release system that supports the air bag?

Not likely. There's not a quick release hub currently on the market with the electrical connections required to power and operate the airbag and electronic controls. Keep in mind that complicated steering wheels (with instrumentation and electronic controls) like those on modern F1 cars cost upwards of $10-15K! I doubt there'd be many takers for THAT kind of retrofit ...

It's a violation of Federal Law to disable/remove an airbag without permission from the NHTSA, and they'll only approve it for certain reasons, none of which you likely qualify for.

I personally wouldn't do this simply because as a theft deterrent, it's not going to stop someone from just flat-bedding the car off. As a "visual mod", not worth much IMO. As a functional mod, it's pretty 'ricer' if you're playing race car driver.

Just my $0.02.
