Default Photos on engine rebuild (N/A)

Hi guys,

For those people who don't go to the other website, many of you have already known that my engine is currently being rebuilt @ Nizpro and the car should be back home with basic tune at the end of next week... then I will need to run the engine in until they can do further fine tunings at higher rpm when they are back in mid-jan next year...

The built engine has:

1. Nizpro spec 11.5:1 compression pistons (8 thou overbore) with Moly coats + 0.2mm oversize piston rings
2. Carrillo A beam Rods
3. Bore and hone cylinders to meet spec and resulting 22cc larger in engine capacity
4. Modify bearings
5. Modify combustion chambers (don't have photos here) and cylinder heads (porting and polishing)
6. Modify oil routes @ the crankshaft
7. Balanced bottom end (Balance pistons, rods, crank, flywheel, UR crank pulley... etc)
8. Stronger Oil Pump for high rev (05 item)
9. '05 lower intake plenum
10. Nismo VTC pulleys
11. Nismo valve springs
12. Nismo Spec 1 camshaft sets
13. Nismo cat back system (brand new from japan thanks to the guy ran into my rear bumper)
14. Fujitsubo headers
15. crawford cats
16. Nizpro custom Y pipe with larger collectors
17. Nizpro modified airbox with 118mm bell mouth and 84mm intake SS tube + K&N filter
18. MoTeC M600 ECU with Nizpro plug and play wiring loom
19. and MD spacer + Iso-thermal kit

Might not be able to tell how much gains we have until we get to the fine tuning stage, it will be quite interesting to find out if 05 lower plenum helps in this engine rebuild...

Here are some up to date photos to share and would like to give big thanks to Jason @ Performance Nissan, Jarek (Nuff), Murray (mchampman) and Peter Pilkington (Nathan) from Sydney for all the tips and helps! I will keep all of you guys posted on how things turn out!

cheers,

richie

Great job Richie!! You have, without a doubt, one of the finest motors for our platform in the world!! Can't wait to see the results. My project is starting to move again. So maybe I can contribute some power too!

Your one of 5 that I have ever saw venture this deep into the VQ NA. If I were rich I would do the same!

thanks guys,

I am not hoping for more though.. my base is around 162rwKW (on aussie dyno machines, that's around 220rwHP, our aussie stardard cars with exhausts always have numbers around there), and with the nismo s1 engine + motec ecu before this rebuild, the car went up to 202rwKW (274.7rwHP), then i am hoping for around 210rwKW (286rwHP) or so with high compression pistons, anymore will be bonus to me... the main reason to this rebuild is that I will want to rev the engine up to 8000rpm without worries and that's what I am really after

We don't really know why those dyno numbers that you guys have over there are a lot higher than what we always see here, probably we are talking about different systems?!

Geoff:

I cannot wait to see your product!!! Please keep us posted! Thank!

cheers,

richie

Wow, all out NA! Did you ever consider some nice titanium rods? Sure it might of added another $1500 US to the total tab but that would have been a real nice touch.

Didn't go for titanium rods here, the engine builder reckons that a set of Carrillo forged rods is more than enough since it is already lighter than stock rods, but as you said, it would have been a real nice mod to have... a lot lighter for sure..

I was also thinking about some titanium valves, but engine builder did not want me to put that in because we will need to replace those valves like every 10,000 km or so which will be a killer to me! I just follow what the prof. thinks with this engine rebuild job!

cheers,

richie

So what is the expected power output? Didnt you already have the S1 cams? Or are these different?

you're only hoping for 286rwhp by doing all this?? some guys here are making that without all this! i would think an 8000rpm engine would make more than 286hp!

why did you not opt to go for a stroker kit? that AEBS 4.3L would be KILLER!

yup... I have already got the S1 cams.. and with those S1 cams, exhaust, motec and other small mods, I was making 202rwKW from 162rwKW(with exhaust, cats and intake but excluding headers) which was around 54rwHP gained... that means IF I had a base dyno number like what you guys have in the States (on the dyno machines that you are using), I would have probably got just over 300rwHP already with the previous setup...

As I said, our aussie dyno machines read less HP on the wheels than the US dyno machines... and with the high compression ratio pistons and other new parts, probably I will get 311rwHP+ over there based on my expectation of 8rwKW (11rwHP) extra on the current project...

The important thing for you to look at is the TOTAL GAIN if we are comparing on totally different dynos used in two different countries... so if your car is making 250rwHP over there with just bolt-on exhaust and intake and with my previous setup, you will get 304rwHP... and the current setup, you might get 315rwHP+ over there in the US..

cheers,

richie

one thing I'd be concerned about is cylinder float if you plan on really revving it to 8k or higher....did you consider cylinder reinforcement? Sleeves or other?

I did consider sleeves before this rebuild and spoke to my engine builder + Peter Pilkington who already built many VQ35DE for Australia GTP racing in Sydney, they all reckon that it is not necessary since the standard cylinders are quite strong and Peter had no problem going beyong 7500rpm and staying around that rpm at all on the circuits, that was why I didn't go for sleeve kits. I reckon the power will start to drop off way before 8000rpm... we will put the fuel cut at 8000rpm, it is still safe to go up that high, but I will not want to see that number all the time though!

cheers,

richie

Ritchie, can you post the results that the shop got on the Dyro runs with the Ferrari 360(?) compared to your car?, this might give these guys a better idea of exactly the type of gains you are talking about. I still think your "corrected" numbers are on the low side, the Ferrari comparision shows this.
