Well, a light mist followed by 7 weeks of drought and accumulated road grime conspired against me on a rather innocent looking corner I'd driven hundreds of times before. Fortunately neither my passenger or I were hurt, just minor bruises. The insurance/body shop believe it's fixable. I guess we'll see but I have my doubts she'll ever be the same.

That's a damn good question. It was laying out in the road. I hit the tree sliding sideways, spun 270 degrees, and when I got out the door skin was out in the road with me. I thought it was really odd as well.

Yeah.....that'll buff right out with a little elbow grease.
Looks like the car did its job and crumble up to absorb the impact. You need a new insurance company if they think that's fixable, the frame is bent! Anyways, if they want to fix it, I would fight to the death for a new Z.

Other than the car I'm glad to hear you and your passenger are ok.
Great to know you guys are okay... THAT CAR IS TOTALED....its gonna be a good 15-20 k just to fix it, fight the insurence company! Sorry to say but after it is fixed the car is going to be two different shades of red and that body damage is serve, thats alot of welding to be done. Try to get it as a totaled car, you will be better off. Who is your insurence company?
Good Luck.

Allstate. I agree it's totalled and will be fighting every step of the way to get it totalled. Anybody that's been through this have any suggestions as to how to go about doing that?
In certain states, once the frame is bent its considered totaled by law. Even if the insurance wants to fix it, go get some estimates thats over $30k! Insurance won't fix it now! I hope you had full coverage.
IF they don't declare totaled, threaten to take them to court.. i believe in all states its any frame damage is totaled. All state they are usually good with that stuff.. thats who i have. Do all you can to get it totaled. I will double check with VA state legislation but I am about 90% sure that that law is a fact.. give me 10 minutes to ask jeeves
