WTF! Paint coming off both mirrors!
WTF is up with this. Wash the car yesterday, go out in the garage this morning and am applying my monthly coat of Zaino and WTF do I see when I apply it to the mirrors? The pad is bright red. Concerned I go over to the other mirror, flip the pad over, and damned if it doesn't do the same thing. Rest of the car is perfect, mirrors still have a gloss to them.
Anybody have a clue what the hell could cause this? I'm taking it in Monday for a faulty window motor, oil change, and a squeaky seat (for the third time on this one).
My Jeep lives in the sun, never get's waxed, and the paint sure as hell isn't coming off it.

No kidding. It would seem to me they owe me a couple of mirrors. Even with NO wax the clear coat shouldn't be GONE in less than 2 years much less with Zaino applied regularly.
POS Nissan paint.

Mine looks perfect, shiny and everything. It just so happens that when you wax the car the paint comes off. Not a desireable characteristic nor one I've observed before. Seems like a warranty item but Nissan being the pain in the *** they are I'm sure the dealer will fight it.

This is my third Nissan, and let me let you in on something...they have crappy paint. My Altima...bumpers were all chipped to hell. Sentra...chipped the paint off of my bumper by bumping into it with my shin at work. The Z...well, the dealer chipped the hell out of the bumper when they put on the front license plate mount. Trust me, you're not the first, and won't be the last. Doesn't make it suck any less though. I also heard of a guy that needed the roof, hood, and deck lid resprayed after a year cus the paint had already oxidized on his Frontier.

Ah yes, wonderful Nissan dealerships, how do I hate thee, let me count the ways.
I was told that the paint coming off the casing is "Normal"
Last "regular" brand I will ever buy. The folks at Acura actually go out of their way to fix things. Nissan, Jeep, VW, Mazda (those I have experience with) go out of their way to NOT fix things.

Lol... you're joking right? Since it's a junk fee to boost commission *I'm assuming but probably right* and you were smart enough not to pay it... seriously what could they say? Well I applaud on you not paying.
*Edit* I'm assuming you meant the "clear coat" or whatever that fee was called for several hundred dollars.

Bump since I know what the issue is. This is not "crappy paint" (although Nissan/Infiniri paint is crappy) it's that they use single stage paint on mirrors; they must be painted at a different plant and then assembled later. What does this mean? Nothing really; the paint is single stage and thus it has no clear coat - the protective enamels of the clear coat are mixed in with the pigmented paint so it has the same protection, just in a different way. It does mean your pads will turn the color of the paint since the top layer is pigmented (the only reason it doesn't on other areas is the paint coming off on the pads is clear).
Otherwise treat them as normal.

Mine did the same thing (2003 redline). It looked to me like the clearcoat just wore through. I ended up just getting them repainted at the same time it was getting the lip kit put on.
