Default Tanabe SM Hyper on 2005 Track (Sound clips inside)

So I’ve installed my new Tanabe SM Hyper Y-back exhaust Monday.

I ordered it a bit over a week ago from Mach 1 Car Accessories (http://www.machonecar.com ). I dealt with John. Great service, good price and timely delivery and I got a My350Z.com rebate. I’m very happy and recommend dealing with them.

Here is their contact:

The install was pretty straight forward. Took 90 minutes overall. I was very carefull not to hit the carbon drive shaft. The Nissan recommendations on the precautions to take when working near it are pretty scary. Basically, hit it or drop it and you’re good for a new one…

The silencer itself is a lot smaller. It would be nice to have some mounting hardware in the canister to install the airflow management panel that is on the OEM one. Idea for future development?

It sounds great! Idle is just slightly louder. Steady speed cruising is also very quiet. . I barely notice it. But, like someone noted elsewhere, as soon as you apply throttle, it gets louder. Not too much, but a lot better than stock! Windows up or down, it’s always audible. I luv it

Here are the sound clips I made. The camera was about 4in from the ground and six feet behind the bumper. The sound while driving is similar, will less gurgles off throttle.

I revved the engine up to 2000, 3000 and held it to 4000 before blipping it up to 7000 rpm.

Save_as of the before/after videos:

They’re in DivX 6 format... The codec is available here: DivX

sounds good, do you still have your stock y-pipe on there? Not bad, not bad at all. I prefer louder, but it has a nice tone. Keep it up, look'n good. One more thing, those tips are gigantic, wut size are those, 4.5 or 5 inches?

My favorite part of this exhaust is accelerating, under load the exhaust sounds very nice. I'm so much harder on my car now!

Whats a Ings rear kit ?

Yes I still have the stock Y pipe.

The only draw back I found is that my friend's neighbour thinks that sounds = speed and goes crazy when I'm "speeding" down the road doing 30 mph...

God I love the stock exhaust sound. Great vids.

New exhaust is close enough to old exhaust for me to still enjoy it.

LOL! Same thing here. And I have an aftermarket Y-pipe and Test Pipes. I go 20-25 mph through the cul-de-sac and get a threat from a neighbor who says he's going to call the police. #$^& I pretty much haveta drop it in neutral to keep him happy... :/ Haters.

I like them.

I use them both on the track and on the street. The rears lasted longer than the re040 (8000 miles vs 7000 for the OEM ones). Considering I pushed them harder, they lasted well.

Driving through open water when the tires are at the wear indicators is no fun at all. They are mainly dry weather tires.

I run 235/40R18 and 255/40R18 on stock Track wheels.

Do you happen to have these in a Windows 98 compatible format?

Thanks.

Windows 98 ????

I don't have any software with which to make an mp3.

Here's an other video in mpeg format. It a most inefficent lunch (my fisrt one ever...) but it was a LOT of fun ! You do get a pretty good idea of the sound under load.

Drag lunch

hey, can you make any more vids of the exhaust doin some fly by's at different throttle loads? The exhaust sounds great! I just want to hear how it sounds during regular driving, and semi aggressive throttle conditions.
Thanks

Sure,

You barely notice it's there while cruising (I cruise at 80 on the highway). Taking off from street corners souds good. It's actually hard not to push her to get that sweet rumble !
Give me a few days, I'll get some more vids online.

not to go off topic but ReavTek, did you have any problems mating the Tanabe's 70mm piping to the Fujitsubo Y-pipe's 76mm?

Nope not at all. Did the install myself in my garage on jackstands and not a single issue. You may want another persons help in hooking up the muffler tho cause it is bulky.

Thumbs up Tanabe SMH exhaust

Thanks for posting up the exhaust clips! I like how you have a stock sound clip to compare with.

Listening to the two exhaust clips back to back, I noticed that the Tanabe exhaust actually sounds quieter than the stock exhaust in the lower RPM's. Then when you gun it, the Tanabe basically retains the same exhaust note as stock, except deeper.

So I guess Tanabe Super Medallion Hyper is basically the same as the Apexi WS exhaust. They both retain the stock exhaust note, except slightly deeper/louder.
