9/20/03 Sat Palomar/Laguna/PineValley Drive
9/20/03 Sat Palomar/Laguna/PineValley Drive
Hey All, we've had 5 or so drives around Palomar...time to do something a bit different. I'll lead a group through an extended drive, visiting a lot of new territory while still getting in some of our favorite twisties near Palomar Mountain. This is definitely a meet for those that like to drive the twisties and get a lot of beautiful scenery in, mountain high views, woods, etc. In my humble opinion...I think the curves around Palomar are the best in California.
We'll meet at the Gas Station on 76 near the Pala Casino at 11154 Highway 76 (East of the 15 about 5 miles). Meet around 9AM 9/20/03 Saturday, we will leave at 9:30AM sharp to head up the mountain.
We will head East on 76, then take S6 (S Grade Road) to Mother’s Kitchen/Palomar Mountain General Store for a quick break, from there some excellent twisties as we wind our way on S7 (E Grade Road) back to 76. Then quickly hopping off 76 to Center Loop/Mesa Grande (this road defines what a curve is) which drops us out on 79 and on to another familiar break at Dudleys Bakery in Santa Ysabel.
Then the new part begins.
We will continue on 78/79 through Julian then follow 79 to Sunrise Highway S1 and to the Laguna Mountains. We will have a short break at the Laguna Mountain Lodge/Store then drive down the mountain via Sunrise Highway, hop on Old Highway 80 and stop to have lunch in Pine Valley at Majors Coffee Shop (a hole in the wall with some interesting decorations). After lunch, we head back the way we came, although taking Old Highway 80 to 79 and heading north back to Julian/Santa Ysabel and through the twisties of Palomar. The drive ends once back at 76 and 15. If we start at 9:30AM, will probably finish around 3 or 4PM.
Let me know if you are interested. Should be a fun drive with some excellent scenery.
Brian.

Forgot to mention in my initial post, please bring a FRS Radio. You can get them real cheap. They are real useful for road trips with your buds. Heck, you should even have two of them with you in your car...just in case...you never know when a drive meet might occur
Anyways, you can pick up a 2 pack online at Walmart for less then $30. See:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...%3A3983%3A4511
Plus shipping/handling. Well worth it.
I'll also PM AllWheelDrive, see if he and/or his friends in the WRXs can make it.

Sounds like a plan. Tentatively, I'm in.
I wanted to check out the "2nd Annual Mossy Performance
All Nissan Car Show" on the same day, but touring Palomar is a lot more fun.

To Power350Z: Yeah, I was wondering about seeing if any S2000 SoCals wanted to join for the ride also. Sounds like you may know some...go for it and ask them. Would be very cool to see some of their cars!

Yeah, whatever weekend and day I picked, figured something we be conflicting or would be a bad weekend for me.
I saw the Nissan bash last year, so figured I'd skip this year.
Although for those that really want to attend both the drive and the Nissan bash...we have an excellent out point in the middle of the drive for you to do this. When we reach Pine Valley around noon for lunch, you could hop on Hwy 8 which is right there and head West on 8, North on 15, West on 78 and be at the bash in about 1 hour 15 minutes...giving you 2+ hours of the show left to look at things. Best of both worlds if you want to attend both.

Hey Noel, actually it was probably me (Brian) you borrowed the FRS radio from. I thinked I loaned two out. Figured I'd see them at some future Z meet which is fine by me (you can get these units for $10 bucks each at Walmart). So keep it. Hope you can make the Z run on 9/20!

Right on..hey John, you mentioned stoptech..did you get the big brake kit package w/c are 355mmx32mm front & rear? i saw them on line, they look sweet man.specially w/u'r 19's....remember the black one we saw in San Diego?they were rotoras..i really like them aswell..still planing of getting one,but the price is close to a super charger..so,i'm still kinda not sure if i'll be getting the big brake package or the super charger...by then you'll see what i've decided by this meet...Zya...

Hey Noel,
Yea I got the stop-techs for a pretty good price. There the 4 piston red calipers(32mm) w/ slotted/drilled rotors front and back and stainless steel brake lines to go with them. I haven't got them on yet but am wondering where would be a good place to get them put on? I probably will put the fronts on but don't have the tools to put the rear calipers on... any suggestions???
As far as what u get, there both good to get if upgrading just too expensive for both.
