ok, here is the rundown on the components:

- stock headunit (didnt care to mess with nav integration, maybe will swap with 8V Eclipse Pre-out in the future)

- Boston Acoustics RC620 (6.5" components in stock driver and tweeter locations) Driver required 1" spacer to clear window.

- Boston Acoustics FX6 (6.5" coaxials in rear stock locations) These rears are running off headunit power, since they dont need to much push.

- 2 JL Audio 8W3D6 (Dual 6 ohm voice coils, running parallel on each speaker, then parallel into AMP.. this gives 1.5 ohm total) These are in a custom enclosure, kind of like a stealthbox. The shop made 4 sides from MDF, then contoured the bottom with mold fabric and resin. it sits flush in stock sub location. Pics below.

- JL Audio 300/2 pushing the front Bostons. input signal from front signal from headunit. crossed over.

- JL Audio 250/1 pushing the subs. input signal from 300/2.

- 4 gauge power and ground for amps

- Dynamat extreme for doors and firewall thing.

all work done at Tweeter in Frisco...the most awesome installer... Patrick Riley, was a magician!!

here is the first pic (the front drivers)..
ok.. so to that i added an Eclipse CD5442 Headunit, Eclipse 6-disc in-dash changer, kenwood amplified center speaker, more dynamat xtreme for rear hatch, and brushed aluminium trim for radio and nav screen...

aftermarket headunits dont have the ability to accept an AUX in AND switch to it automatically...

so this is what i did....i got the nav voice working through the amplified center speaker because the nav unit actually generates a line level voice output. the next problem was figuring out how to mute the aftermarket radio when the voice comes on so i can hear it... see, aftermarket radios have "telephone mute" inputs, which activate when the input senses ground.

the problem is the stock navigation uses a +9V signal to the stock headunit to tell it to mute the music. what do you do? easy.. you go down to the electronics store and pick up a 6V relay. use the nav +9V signal to trip the relay, and use the normally open to ground, and the common to the telephone mute wire.

so what happens when the voice comes on...? well the radio mutes (with a display of "TEL MUTE") and then the voice comes through the center speaker... when the voice stops, the radio turns back to normal volume .... awesome!!!

also, with the new headunit, the sound is obviously 1 million times better...

i also was entered into the tweeter magazine competition... i am hoping to get the boardmembers to help, by voting for my car!!

voting starts 11/23. i will post another message closer to that date...

the magazine is annual, so my Z will be in there for a whole year!!!!

anyways... enjoy. ask questions if nec.

darn...

i forgot to include pics of my nav-tv install and reverse color camera (done by myself!)..

it took about 3 hours to run and solder all of the connections. i am using 4 relays total in this setup. 1 to catch the reverse light +12V, 1 to catch ACC for the RGB converter, and 2 to switch the video selection from reverse camera to dvd.

basically the screen shows nav by default. when i hit a switch, the screen jumps over to my DVD (will arrive thursday). in either case, if the car is put into reverse, the backup camera overtakes the signal and shows up on the screen.

i will take pics of the DVD player install when it comes in.

here is the camera in the lower left hand corner...

the camera matches the license frame almost exactly... there was really no better place to make the camera less noticable.

anyway... here is the RGB box under the passenger seat. nav-tv doesnt really send long cables, but luckily they use DB9 cables... i had 2 extra extensions to move the box further away.

camera was $230... but that's at cost... i dont know what it would cost retail..

the picture quality is really good... the camera focuses, and auto-adjusts brightness, contrast, and hue. does a decent job to keep things distinguishable (sp?)... it also has 150 degree view.

only gripe i have is more with location (or lack of them..)

the lowest the camera sees is about 2' from my bumper... so i have to guesstimate the last foot or so by "feel"...

WHoa... you beat me!

I'm about to do a Clarion + Sony EQ combination.
I have the unit... ordering Metra kit soon.

The price I got from www.audio-warehouse.com
was under $17.

Call up the 800 # and ask for Bart.

I hope this is the actual kit. The guys at Metra
refered me to this website for ordering.

i have seen the metra kit first hand, and was not impressed. i had paid for the custom surround way before metra's kit was coming out...

i did have a chance to get my money refunded, and the metra installed... but like i said, i was extremely unimpressed.

Cool Very nice and clean install!!

Do you really get that much use out of the reverse camera. I usually park so far out that nothing would get in my way.

Anyway, you did a great job on the install!

How do you remove the sunglass holder/dome light unit that's between the sunvisors. Is it snapped in or are there some hidden screws?
