15-20 % friction loss is normal. This will Vary dependent on elevation and temps.

That is exactly what mine was before the mods. Now I'm at 269 and dreaming of the day I get my hands on a DreamWorkes Super Charger.

Before you to the trouble of installing the Borla headers, you might want to talk to Doug about the Crawford's...

People aren't reporting much of any gains with the Borlas, and many have wished the didn't bother.

Pick on the headers, plenum, and cats... that will make for a NICE combo!

I would highly recommend AGAINST Borla headers. Even David Borla himself said that his headers don't gain much.

Hey guys/gals. I'm new to this forum, actually new to this kind of car (I actually have G35 not a Z). My previous car was an '01 Camaro SS that is gone . Anyway, what kind of coating do those Crawford headers have? I think when I get those headers, I will get them "jet hot" coated. I had "jet hot" coated headers on my Camaro...awesome finish.

http://www.jet-hot.com/pages/headerc...OVMTC=standard

Here is a picture of Long tubes for an LS1 (camaro, etc) before they were put in the car.

Very nice long tubes...

Too bad our Z doesn't have the need for those... too long a tube and you start losing power.

LS1s on the other hand LOVE to breathe..

What were you laying down? There are plenty of heads/cam packaged ones around here laying down low 400s, then on top of that spraying... GEEEEZ I'm way behind!

It was a pretty strong car. I put down 312 RWPH when it was bone stock...only 2000 miles on the clock. After the long tubes, and some minor bolt ons, stock heads, stock cam she put down 351 RWHP (after solving the problem of the car running pig rich) . After installing a slightly more agressive cam....384 rwhp. "shorty" headers on the LS1 gave the car very little or no gain on the '01-02' ls1's because the stock manifolds flowed decent. Which is why you pretty much have to go to either Mid length or long tubes.

Anyway, so the Crawford headers are stock length and showing gains? That's awesome. I don't care too much about the finish, at least what I see in the pictures. But "Jet Hot" will solve that for me Besides looking pretty, Jet Hot prevents rust and keep temp down.

I'm always jealous that LS1 NEARLY lays down what they advertise to the crank. 287 rwhp would have been nice, had it been stock in the Z!

The Crawford headers are no where's near stock length... stock is awfully short. Crawford's piping is over two feet long. The current "finish" is high-temp powdercoat, which is working incredibly well. Temps are very well controlled, and exterior rust prevention is kept at a minimum.

Even then, no denying the jet hot product... that stuff just LOOKS as well as it performs.

Just some FYI... the Headers, high-flow cats, plenum, and Borla exhaust... made over 20hp at peak, and 40 at redline. This is HUGE!

Hmmm, yes that is huge. How hard of an install is it? When I installed long tubes on the LS1...@#$@#$@ But I guess all long tubes on just about all cars is a PITA. I had to take off a motor mount bolt, jack the engine slightly to get the drivers side header in..but the passenger side went right in. Overall, the headers took me 20 hours to intall...didn't help that I dont have a lift . Anway, they aren't on your car are they? The bottome of you sig says "coming soon". I bet you can't wait! Keep me posted on the install process if you decide to install yourself.

Edit: I just realized your home page says www.crawford.com, you are "crawford"? Cool.

Well, I'm not Crawford...

Actually the owners name is Doug Stewart... we're all part of the Middle Tennessee Z Club. Partying, racing, you know... like a family?

As for install, with a lift... it's not terribly bad. Without, forget about it.

You can't just put the motor mount bolts out. Doug found the best way is to pull the mounts out altogether and slightly rock the motor, allowing a better point of entry for the headers. Goes in like "budda".

What are your mods? 30+HP over stock is pretty damn good.

my stock baseline dyno result was:

253.9hp@6516rpm and 225.3torque@4991rpm, it was performed on a Dynapack dyno.

If you used Dynojet dyno, it will be slightly lower, because Dynojet measures at the wheel, with the rear tires spinning on the machine.

And the one I was on, dynapack, attaches the sensor to your rear rotor, and measure Hp at the rotor instead, so it will be higher, but more accurate. Because it eliminates the problem caused by different rim sizes and tires.

Too Late, i have already started installing both the headers and cats, the reason i got the borla was due to the TQ#'s they claim, something like 15 at the wheels, HP is not important right now, i plan on going FI (SuperCharged) and that will give me all the HP i need and then some. I will dyno it next week and see how much i gained

psssst... you're one of the FIRST people to get it right!

Torque IS what wins the races. Confused though, never heard the Borlas gained that much torque.

Needless to say, best of luck! Let us know how it turns out!

That was with NISMO Cold Air Intake , NISMO Camshafts , NISMO Headers , Random Technology High Flow Cats , NISMO Exhaust , and pulleys.

The ECU was Re-Programed at Techno Square but did nothing for the A/F. It is being reprogramed when Jeff gets his car back from the stereo shop. Hopefully it will fix the A/F problem.
