i have an 03 on stock suspension. it's bouncy. i dont want to shell out the $$ for coilovers. i have a set of s-techs, will that take care of the bouncing?

 

it will definately help.

 

The problem is your 03 shocks. Springs will not cure the bounce, they can reduce it in some respects, but they cannot kill it totally. The spring that had the most success at reducing bounce on the 03/04 shocks are by Hotchkis. Really, Tokico D-spec shocks are your best bet for a guaranteed, non coilover $$ fix. IMO, pull your shocks and dumpster them.

 

i dont see how new springs would help stop a bouncy ride. i think that ur uncomfortable ride is due to your struts, in which case i agree that the tokico shocks are real good. im just not sure what dumpsteer is refering to!

 

Definitely go with Tokico D spec adjustables. At the softer settings you will still have a very tight responsive road car and the better response time will eliminate bounce.

and still as annoying.

 

The damper valving of the stock suspension causes this. Although springs can help, they are not the fix-all if the factory dampers are not up to par.

Also, please take caution when throwing dampers into the trash-- It may be illegal in many states.

 

My 03 Z got more bouncy as I hit a few bumps(lots of train tracks and messed up roads in San Francisco), now my car feels like a boat floating around sometimes, especailyl in low speed, at high speed, it is still acceptable, but still it is bouncier than be4. Was it just me or does anyone have similar problem? Or the 03 stock suspensions get worn out just like that over time? Could somebody shed a light on me ?

03/04 oem shocks cause the bounce, mileage is a non issue as a path to the reason or cause (of course wear will only make the well known issue even worse). Too much compression dampning and not enough rebound control is the cause. Nissan revised the oem Z suspension part way into the 2004 model year, hence the reason for marketplace wtb posts for revised shocks or revised springs.

 

I get that your saying its "still acceptable", but you've got to be honest with yourself,...it it really? Your best move is to either to score some used 04.5+ oem shocks for a respectable price and swap them in or to invest in Tokico D-spec shocks. I used to have the same suspension that your car has now, I'm fully aware of what the ride and drive is like. Way too much bounce and freeway porposing. I loved the stiffness of the shocks, but it will allow bounce when cornering and that will surpress the amount of speed you can carry.

 

Exactly, the wheels dont feel very "touch to ground" when it is at high speed, I can feel the tiny bounciness of the shock when going into high speed sweepers, for example, turn 8 at the thunderhill raceway(90+mph turn), it "feels" like air is coming through underneath the car and the car is going to flip(exaggerated) due to the bouncy suspension. It definitely has lessened my confidence in hanging the turn.
Besides, how is the Koni Sports shocks compared to the Tokico's? I have found a great deal on ww.ajusa.com for 630 including shipping. What do u think? Any help would be highly appreciated.
