Looking to clean my MAF, CRC makes a product for this now

Anyone done this yet? Is it easy to get to the MAF sensor? Any special reset procedure afterwards?

 

Huh, I've never seen that but interested to see if anyone has used it.

 

I've seen it before in pep boys or autozone... if it's just alcohol and volatile hydrocarbons I would think it would be pretty safe.

Just to be sure, test it out on a friend's civic first...

After all, if it **** up your MAF then you could make them buy you a replacement MAF

I am going to do this pretty soon so I will report back.

 

I think that my sensor is working well so I would just as soon skip the cleaner.

 

I would say "why fix something thats not broken" but MAF's do get dirty especially if you have a high flow filter like JWT or have a long ram and drive in rain, I can see how cleaning it might improve mileage, power ect.
I read online that it can be done every 6 months or every year and it'll improve the cars power and mileage, so maybe its worth it..

I'm a traveling salesman (insert joke here) and saw saw this product in a NAPA Auto Parts store. When I asked the owner about he said the feedback from his customers which are professional mechanics is "two thumbs up!!".

 

I have pulled my MAF sensor (I hope thats what I pulled ) now Do I have to open the casing up or just spray the cleaner into the openings?

 

Did it come with directions?

 

@ derek173: Don't open the casing, just clean inside the opening.

 

Yikes .... that looks like an expensive "test" if nothing was wrong in the first place. I messed up mine on my Mustang GT ... ended up buying a whole new sensor (upgraded to a PRO-M at the same time though!) because the stock one got messed up somehow - and I was VERY careful!

Those sensors and wires are SCARY delicate!!!

 

Well I cleaned it, I will report back on fuel econonmy. I could tell the wire was clean after about 6 sprays it looked brand new (was a lil dark when i pulled it).



First thing I noticed Idle is much much smoother. I will report back or make a new thread.

Just bought a bottle last night and I'll try cleaning mine as well. My Z is running REALLY bad lately and I have no idea why. It's running really rich and I'm sure my MAF is dirty. I know I have carbon buildup on the TB so I guess I'll clean that too.

 

I recently got a used 03' Z, and unfortunatly I don't know much about cars in general. But reading this forum daily is at least helping me understand some of my z's insides. I'm always on the lookout for something I should check/repair/clean and looking for tips online. I plan to bring it into the shop soon and have them do some sort of full inspection. I love my Z and don't mind spending a little money to get it to its best condition. Would anyone have any simple checks/fixes for my car, or at least a direction? Is bringing it to the local Nissan Dealership to get a service/inspection a good idea? Thanks for your help in advanced.

When I first got my Z my air filter was FILTHY! Check your air filter and look in the airbox as well as the passages to it. I had like a little wall of leaves in the little duct going to the airbox. Cleaning the MAF sensor could help too depending on how dirty it is. Check the throttle body for carbon buildup too, I know mine has probably had it for a while.

How many miles are on your Z? I'd check out some TSB's and get those taken care of as well. I did them while I was still under warranty, right now I'm out of warranty

 

i got it with 33k miles its and 03 and the warranty expires on july 7th =(

would you recommend this spray if my MAF sensor is dirty?

 

I'm gonna give it a shot with the spray, it shouldn't hurt though. I got some at Pep Boys last night, couldn't find it anywhere else.

New Orleans here. I heard that the popchargers can leave a film on the maf especially after the first cleaning. Anyone have this prob.
