Default How many people have blown their Boosted engine with the FCON EMS?

Just curious to see how many people running the FCON V PRO on there stock block and a good tune have blown there engine? Regardless of turbo kit or SC.

If you did what were the conditions?

PSI?
WHP?
Tuner?

Thanks!

Very unlikely to have F-Con for stock motor. Expensive unit and cost $$$ to tune. That level of tuning is unnecessary for the Max Power Level Constraints on a stock block IMO.

Good-luck.

I dont recall anyone blowing their engine with the FCON, but as mentioned, there are few people that have them installed. We recommend the FCON for higher boost applications 12-20psi. It's engine control and precision is second to none.

I know of a guy-but I wont publically put him/the tuner out there. I'm sure if/when he sees this, he'll chime in. BTW-it wasnt the FCON's fault...

Oh shoot..I forgot about him. I dont count that as a blow...since any engine will blow without a rev limiter!!!

There's another too. But not a completely blown engine. Suspected head gasket... F-Con / GReddy TT setup. But - there were other things in the mix and not just a tuning issue.

How high did he spin it? What gave first? did he float the valves, oil starvation, bearings failed? Someone do share!

I have to disagree with the above statment M, the more control you have over an engine with an aftermarket Turbo system the safer it will be. You don't have to worry about a piggyback system getting diffrent signals from the ECU from when it was originally tuned since the stock ECU is always changing its parameters. Also piggy back ecus usually dont have diffrent IAT compensation, and a bunch of other features the FCon has, Not to mention its awesome 32x32 resolution. There is always the "good enough way" and the right way to do things.

I started this thread because I would like people that have blown their engines with the Fcon to post their expeirance so I can find it if it was a tunning issue or other issue not related to the ems.

I strongly beleive stock motors can make plent of power with the correct EMS.

I do appreciate your opinion and input on this thread though. Thanks.

Anything that gives the user full control over the engine, with a high sampling rate, excellent datalogging, friendly tuner tools, and high resolution is a good thing. The FCON excels in all of this. I think MrATurbo was trying to say, that on a stock block at around 400whp, there are other viable tuning tools...such as the UTEC. I would agree with that.

But for those looking for the utmost control, the FCON is going to deliver for you. I wouldnt say its overkill on a stock block...just better than anything else out there.

from the moment the car is boosted, the functionality of the FCON is never overkill. its cost might be unreasonable for lower HP, but I havent seen anything run a car so smooth so easily.

the FCON has the cleanest and most efficient software interface of any EMS I have seen. this means that your tuner can spend more time tuning, rather then hunting down reasons that simple EMS functions are not properly operating. after tuning FCONs, I lost my patience for everything else.

I first tuned my 350z with the FCON on 9/3/2004. It was the first time I had ever seen the software in my life. Within a couple hours of the first dyno session, the FCON handed me the smoothest FI 350z dyno graph around, along with the highest stock engine power output at the time (never tried more then 9 psi, back then it was unheard of).

The car ran flawless, and I pounded on the car every single night none stop. Something like 15,000 miles of nightly racing the car before I pulled the engine out for a build.

Like I said, when its this easy to tune a full standalone - your HKS Prodealer will be able to focus on TUNING. You wouldnt BELIEVE how many HOURS and HOURS of complete bull**** a tuner has to go through with other systems.

All you guys talk about its pricey. How much is it for the unit and the tune. Around 2000? I think for peace of mind and great running boosted Z its worth it. HMM. Is it worth a crap with the turbonetics kit? I know a lot are using it with TT setups.

It is worth it for ANY FI application.

Cost can vary from $4000-$5500 installed and tuned.

$2500-$3500 for the hardware and misc options/harnesses/sensors. Tuning will vary, based on the vehicle and the application.
