Default Twin turbo build fabrication/pics

Well, the time has finally come for me to have a look at this idea. It is something I have been meaning to do for about a year now, but have not had the time. I really wanted to start it late last year, but with so many people wanting the single turbo kits I just have not had the time.

I have somewhat stocked up on the ST stuff, so I hope to have a bit more time to work on this project.

The idea of this project is to have a TT kit capable of producing some significant HP, but still be very easy to install and maintain. As far as I know, all the TT kits out there require engine removal for installation. I am not a big fan of that, as it can be costly and not DIY friendly. The $1500-$2000 a shop would charge for an install can go towards something else on the car.

At this time I have a Garrett GT2871R turbo, T25 .64 a/r turbine. I wanted to retain the internal wastegate, but it does not look like it will happen. It could be done, but the turbo does not sit the way I want it to (parallel to the engine/transmission). So I will end up using Tial MV-S V-band external wastegates.

If all goes well, and this project is a successes with good demand there will be a couple of turbo option. The largest would be a GT3076R with a T25 .86 a/r housing. I believe this is about the same as the JWT 800bb kit, correct me if I am wrong.

I did not get as much done as I had hoped today, but it is a start, and things look promising. This build may not be as quick do to the ST order, but I will try to make time for it. On to a couple of pictures:

Stocked up on the ST stuff:

Some polished goodness:

New power plant:

The air filter will go straight on to the compressor inlet. This should flow very well, as there is no piping all over the place in the engine bay for the turbo to work through.

Materials to start with:

This is not tubing, but rather pipe (thick):

How things should look with the turbo roughly in place, driver side:

Passenger side:

I think I will have to get a 2" cast elbow and weld it to the compressor outlet to have it shooting forwards towards the FMIC:

3" down pipes will be standard and will bolt up to the OEM Y-pipe, or any other true dual exhaust. Wastegates will be vented to atmosphere, unless re-circulating is requested. That will cost a few $$ though, as it will be a bit of a PITA to do.

The turbos will sit rather high, and there will never be a clearance issue. There will also be brackets built that will attach the dwn pipe to the transmission. This will take the weight of the turbos, so that there is no issues with stress on the headers

At this time (again if there is a demand) a rough price would be between $5800-$5900 for a complete tuner kit with the 3" down pipes. Like the ST kit I offer, this will be very DIY friendly.

Comments and suggestions welcome (good or bad)

I'm guessing this will be using a sump pump for the oil return?

Can't wait to see the complete product

ya i always wondered why kits like my SFR or SP didnt use a little longer header to use the space a little further back. its rather cramped.

your kit will really take money outta the other guys pockets!

Correct, I use one on the ST kits as well. It will be an Exa scavenge pump:

http://turbowerx.com/Scavenge_Pumps/.../Exa-Pump.html

The best you can get, I have seen (many times) guys sell the $550 Weldon pump to get these, as they are rated at 10,000 hour life and can pump 350deg F fluid all day. Very well built unit using ball bearings instead of bushings.

Yes, this is true, the further back your go the better. The main reason for this in my case are the air filters. I just hate how some have the industrial vacuum hose being wedged between the frame and engine. IMO it looks like crap, and from what I understand is a real PITA to pull through. With the turbines sitting further back the down pipe will be almost straight out as well. Both of these reduce labor/cost as well, and there won't be a need to heat wrap anything.

I am ok with that I think I have been doing this with the ST for a bit already.

Vas, get that engine in there and you cant be the guinea pig for the GT3076r turbos.

Well, I was goingt to put a few hours in today but we (wife and kids) decided to spend the day here:

It is 2deg F outside (-15deg F with wind chill factor), so it will be good to get away from it all for the afternoon. We also just got through a winter storm..so driving should be fun.
